Diversification can come through investments in very different sectors, but our vision is to create linkages across all projects, with the core strength being in the cotton business and infrastructure. This infrastructure allows us to work in a circular economy fashion, not only buying agricultural produce but creating finished consumer products of local ingredients for the same consumer. The refined local seed oils are a healthier product for example which then has a net impact on reducing social costs for nearby communities.

Cotton: Empowering Rural Livelihoods

Cotton is at the heart of Birchand Group's business, representing a significant source of employment and income for approximately 500,000 rural households in Tanzania. We work closely with smallholder farmers owning between 0.5 to 10 acres, supporting them in cultivating cotton across the Western Cotton Growing Area (WCGA) and Eastern Cotton Growing Area (ECGA).

As one of the largest cotton buyers in Tanzania, Birchand Group contributes 30% of the market share, bolstering the cotton sector's growth and sustainability. Our ginneries, including Birchand Oil Mill Ltd in Mwanza, Ushirombo and Ulanga district in the eastern region, Kahama Cotton Company Ltd in Kahama and Geita, and Birchand Cotton in Zambia, play a pivotal role in processing seed cotton into an array of valuable products.

Cotton by-products such as cotton lint, cottonseed oil, cottonseed cake, husk, and soap stock enable us to cater to various industries, from fast-moving consumer goods to inputs for the textile and animal feed industry.

With a robust fleet of over 100 trucks, Manlax Transporters ensures timely shipments and cost advantages for the group's businesses. From collecting cotton to distributing lint to ports and transporting seed cotton to depots, our in-house logistics solutions provide us with a key strength and a competitive edge.

As the exclusive distributor of Ndiyo cooking oil in Mwanza, Birchand Trading Store continues to play a crucial role in serving the local community's needs.
